Relieve Pain & Numbness In Your Hands & Wrists
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
If you ever wake up in the middle of the night because your hands have gone numb, you may be suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. Though the symptoms and effects can be alarming, frustrating and even disabling, there’s good news: carpal tunnel syndrome is relatively easy to diagnose, treat and prevent from worsening. In many cases, your sensation can improve after treatment.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Has Several Telltale Signs
Here are some common symptoms and complaints you might notice:
- Numbness in your hand and fingers, especially at night
- Waking up at night to shake the numbness out of your hands
- Dropping objects or needing to hold things with two hands
- Difficulty picking up small objects because you can’t feel your fingertips
- Shock-like feelings from your palms to your thumb, index and middle fingertips
- Occasional shocks up your arm to the elbow
- Hand stiffness, especially in the morning
- Reduced thumb range of motion
- Loss of muscle on the thumb side of the palm
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
The median nerve passes through the center of your wrist and provides sensation to the thumb, index, middle, and part of your ring fingers and also helps with movement of the thumb. This nerve can become compressed where it passes through the narrow tunnel made by the transverse carpal ligament – hence, “the carpal tunnel.” Compression of the nerve results in numbness, tingling and discomfort in your hands and fingers. This compression can be exacerbated by repetitive movements, exposure to vibratory tools, or keeping your wrist bent – which is common while sleeping.

How Dr. Abeye Treats Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is Highly Treatable
At Dr. Abeye’s clinic, we always begin with the most conservative, non-surgical approaches, increasing intervention levels as necessary to achieve relief from pain, increased strength and range of motion.
Non-Operative Carpal Tunnel Intervention: Bracing
Many people are unaware that they sleep with their wrists severely bent. A special brace, worn while sleeping and during certain daytime activities, can allow more room for the median nerve through the carpal tunnel – and relieve the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Non-Surgical Carpal Tunnel Intervention: Steroid Injection
A steroid injection into the carpal tunnel reduces inflammation and can alleviate the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Surgical Treatment: Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release
This minor, outpatient surgery involves using a small camera and surgical tools to cut the tight band (transverse carpal ligament) that is pinching the nerve.
What to Expect
