Common Dupuytren’s Disease Signs, Symptoms and Complaints
Dupuytren’s Disease has several telltale signs which are generally not painful. Here are some common symptoms and complaints you might notice:
- Hard nodules on your palm
- You are unable to straighten your finger
- Firm cords in your palm leading to your finger (commonly confused for tendons)
- Your finger begins to curl inward
- Unable to lay your hand flat on a table
- Difficulty putting your hands in pockets or gloves
- Similar cords in your feet
What is Dupuytren’s Disease?
Dupuytren’s Disease is a genetic condition causing abnormal formation of connective tissue within your palm. It usually begins with the growth of hard nodules or cords just under the skin of your palm, moving towards your fingers and worsening until your fingers can’t be straightened.

How Dr. Abeye Treats Dupuytren’s Disease
Dupuytren’s Disease is Highly Treatable
At Dr. Abeye’s clinic, we always begin with the most conservative, non-surgical approaches, increasing intervention levels as necessary to achieve relief from discomfort, increased strength and range of motion.
Non-Operative Dupuytren’s Disease Intervention: Xiaflex Injection
Xiaflex is a special enzyme made specifically for Dupuytren’s Disease that helps weaken the cord. The administration of Xiaflex entails you coming to the clinic, where Dr. Abey injects the enzyme along the length of the cord. 2-7 days later, after the enzyme has had time to work, you return to the clinic, have your hand numbed and your finger is straightened until the cord pops.
Note: some patients do not meet criteria for Xiaflex.
Non-Surgical Dupuytren’s Disease Intervention: Needle Aponeurotomy
This procedure is done in clinic. During the procedure, the diseased cord is meticulously cut in several places using a small needle. The finger is then straightened, and the cord is popped.
Surgical Treatment: Surgical Excision
During this surgery, the diseased cord is surgically removed.
