Breaking your humerus is no laughing matter
Elbow Fractures
A fall onto your elbow can result in a fracture – even if there’s no visible deformity or intense pain. To ensure proper healing and to preserve range of motion, it’s best to have your elbow examined after any major blow.

Common Elbow Fracture Signs, Symptoms and Complaints
Elbow fractures are usually obvious, but sometimes their symptoms are more subtle. Not all elbow fractures result in visible deformity. Here’s what to look for:
- Swelling around your elbow
- Elbow stiffness
- Bruising
- Hand or finger numbness
- Tenderness
- Pain when rotating your forearm
- Feeling as though your elbow might pop out of its joint
What is an Elbow Fracture?
An elbow fracture is a break in the bones of your elbow. These kinds of fractures are usually caused by a fall or direct blow to the tip of your elbow. Whether it is an olecranon, radial head, or distal humerus fracture, Dr. Abeye can take care of it.

How Dr. Abeye Treats Elbow Fractures
Elbow Fractures are Highly Treatable
At Dr. Abeye’s clinic, we always begin with the most conservative, non-surgical approaches, increasing intervention levels as necessary to achieve relief from pain, increased strength and range of motion. Treatment depends on how severe your fracture is.
Non-Operative Elbow Fracture Intervention: Immobilization
In order for your bones to properly heal, it is critical to restrict their movement while healing takes place. Depending on where the fracture is, you may be provided with a brace, splint, sling or cast to keep the bones immobilized. After the bone has healed and the cast or splint is removed, rehabilitation and physical therapy are recommended to assist in strengthening and regaining full range of motion.
Surgical Treatment for Elbow Fractures
If the elbow fracture causes deformity or functional impairment, Dr. Abeye will likely recommend surgical fixation to prevent long-term problems. Sometimes this involves using a plate and screws or replacing parts of the bone that are injured.
X-Ray Fracture Monitoring
As your broken bone heals, you will likely be asked to come into the clinic for follow-up X-Rays, ensuring that everything is progressing as expected.
What to Expect
When you schedule an appointment with Dr. Abeye to investigate a possible elbow fracture in our Oklahoma City clinic, you can expect a thorough examination of your elbow, imaging with our in-clinic X-Ray, a conversation about your symptoms and education about what is likely happening. You’ll receive a diagnosis, plan of action and any necessary braces or medications.
