Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)
It may be called “golfer’s elbow,” but golfers aren’t the only ones to experience this pain on the inside of your forearm where the muscles attach to the bony bump on the inside of your elbow. Also known as medial epicondylitis, golfer’s elbow also afflicts carpenters, plumbers, and those who enjoy racket sports, throwing sports and weightlifting.

Common Golfer’s Elbow Signs, Symptoms and Complaints
Golfer’s elbow has several telltale signs. Here are some common symptoms and complaints you might notice:
- Pain where tendons attach to the bony bump on the inside of your elbow
- Pain and tenderness on the inner side of your elbow
- Pain that spreads into your forearm and wrist
- Elbow stiffness
- Pain when making a fist
- Hand and wrist weakness
- Numbness or tingling that might extend into your fingers
What is Golfer’s Elbow?
Golfer’s elbow, or medial epicondylitis, is an inflammation or damage where your forearm muscles attach to the inside of your elbow. It is similar to tennis elbow, but on the opposite side. It can come on suddenly or gradually, and is usually caused by overuse, such as forceful motions of the wrist and elbow, inadequate warmup, or excess and repeated stress.

How Dr. Abeye Treats Golfer’s Elbow
Golfer’s Elbow is Highly Treatable
At Dr. Abeye’s clinic, we always begin with the most conservative, non-surgical approaches, increasing intervention levels as necessary to achieve relief from pain, increased strength and range of motion.
Non-Operative Golfer’s Elbow Intervention: “RICE”, Stretching & Therapy
The first treatment method we employ for golfer’s elbow is known as “RICE”: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy and changes to the habits that caused the golfer’s elbow to develop are also critical.
Non-Surgical Golfer’s Elbow Intervention: Injection
Though rarely needed, steroid injections at the site of the golfer’s elbow can reduce the problematic inflammation and allow the tendon to heal.
Surgical Golfer’s Elbow Treatment
Surgery for golfer’s elbow is uncommon and considered a last resort, when more conservative, non-surgical options have been exhausted, and the disorder doesn’t respond to them.
What to Expect
