What is a Fracture?
Fractures are breaks in the bones of your hands, wrists and fingers. They can cause pain and deformity, and are usually caused by trauma, such as falls, sports accidents, car wrecks, fingers caught in dog leashes or other traumatic injuries.

How Dr. Abeye Treats Fractures of the Hand, Wrist and Fingers
Fractures are Highly Treatable
At Dr. Abeye’s clinic, we always begin with the most conservative, non-surgical approaches, increasing intervention levels as necessary to achieve relief from pain, increased strength and range of motion. With any fracture, it is important to image the area using our in-clinic X-Ray to ensure the bones are properly aligned. If not, they may require slight realignment.
Non-Operative Fracture Intervention: Immobilization
In order for your bones to properly heal, it is critical to restrict their movement while the healing takes place. Depending on where the fracture is, you may be provided with a splint or cast to keep the bones immobilized.

Keeping your hand above heart level will help reduce swelling and pain. Over-the-counter pain-relieving medications and limited painkillers may be indicated.
After the bone has healed and the cast or splint is removed, rehabilitation and physical therapy are recommended to assist in strengthening and regaining full range of motion.
Surgical Treatment for Fractures
In some severe fracture cases, surgery may be required to implant pins, plates or other mechanical devices to hold your bones in correct alignment as they heal.
X-Ray Fracture Monitoring
As your broken bone heals, you will likely be asked to come into the clinic for follow-up X-Rays, ensuring that everything is progressing as expected.
What to Expect
When you schedule an appointment with Dr. Abeye to investigate a possible fracture in our Oklahoma City clinic, you can expect a thorough examination of your hands and wrists, imaging to get a clear picture of the fracture, and a conversation about your symptoms. You’ll receive a diagnosis, plan of action and any necessary braces or medications.
