Common TFCC Tear Signs, Symptoms and Complaints
TFCC tears feature several telltale signs. Here are some common symptoms and complaints you might notice:
- Pain on the pinky side of your wrist when twisting
- Clicking or popping on the pinky side of your wrist
- Limited motion
- Weakness
What is a TFCC Tear?
The triangular fibrocartilage complex, or TFCC, supports the joints between the end of your forearm and your hand, crossing over the pinky side of your wrist, where it connects your two lower arm bones and hand bones. A tear of the TFCC can be caused by wear and overuse or an injury, such as falling on an outstretched hand or wrist, or a violent twisting injury.

How Dr. Abeye Treats TFCC Tears
A TFCC Teas is Highly Treatable
At Dr. Abeye’s clinic, we always begin with the most conservative, non-surgical approaches, increasing intervention levels as necessary to achieve relief from pain, increased strength and range of motion.
Non-Operative TFCC Intervention: Bracing
Appropriate bracing to immobilize the TFCC can give it the rest it needs to properly heal.
Non-Surgical TFCC Intervention: Steroid Injection
A steroid injection into the TFCC area reduces inflammation and can help promote healing.
Surgical TFCC Treatment
In severe cases, and depending on the type of tear, arthroscopic wrist surgery can be employed, which uses a small camera and surgical tools to trim or repair part of the TFCC.
What to Expect
